Joao Fonseca is the proud champion of ATP Buenos Aires 2025. He is the youngest champion in the history of the tournament and one of the youngest in the entire ATP. His unmistakable style of play based on power, charisma, and versatility is thrilling the entire world of tennis, and if he continues like this, we will surely see him at the top of the world of tennis for years to come.

The career of Joao Fonseca is just getting started. This ATP Buenos Aires 2025 has been one of the first tournaments he has played at the highest level, and he has already managed to lift the trophy after defeating Tomás Martín Etcheverry, Federico Coria, Mariano Navone, Laslo Djere, and Francisco Cerúndolo in the final 6-4 7-6. The Brazilian, proud of himself and aiming high, spoke at a press conference to assess his tournament and career.

The young Brazilian arrived in Buenos Aires with high hopes, which seemed to fade upon seeing the tournament draw: "When I arrived here, I thought it was impossible to win due to the tough draw, but here we are", he said, then talked about Argentina: "This is my first title. Argentina is in my heart, and hopefully, I can come back next year. We will see if it's possible. I have felt at home here, which is very good as a Brazilian."

- His ultimate dream

A first ATP title that came early but is a dream come true, although there are many more dreams: "Winning the first title is a dream. Playing a final away from home and also in Argentina is difficult. It's a very special title for me, a big step in my career towards achieving my ultimate dream, which is to be the world number one", he confessed. Afterwards, he was asked about how his journey in tennis began: "Every child who loves sports wants to be the best in the world. I started playing tennis at 4 years old influenced by my father and brother. At 8-9 years old, I started playing more tournaments and realized I wanted to pursue tennis as a career. I also used to play football, but I had hope that I could be a professional in tennis, and I keep growing, and my dream is still there."

- His "no" to university

Exactly a year ago, Joao turned down attending the University of Virginia (United States), even though he had a signed agreement to play in collegiate tennis: "A year ago, I decided not to go to university. All young players have to consider going; it's crucial for the future and as a person. It would have been an opportunity to study in the United States as a Brazilian. It was an opportunity, and I even signed with a university, but now I don't regret anything, and luckily, I didn't go (laughs)."
